Downloading HD content....

This might be a really dumbass question but ill give a go

If I download some 720 HD content onto my laptop, play it back in media player linked up to my HD TV via VGA cable, will this actually be shown in HD??

yes. so long as you have the resolution set correctly.

Your laptops resolution must be at least *x720 where * represents the horizontal resolution.

Ideally set the resolution as close to 1280x720 as you can.

erm no set it as close to the native resolution of the panel as possible

Yes its a Tosh that does 720p, does 1080i but not p

Settings on my laptop seem to be 1280x800, there is no x720 option........

thats the capabilities of your hdmi input, often the vga is different, try it out.

1366x768 then but it wont accept that or will overscan, so most prob 1360x768 or you will get stuck with some shitty resolution re sampled to hell it will look 'ok' but annoy the s**t out of me

I dont really play games, but for a stand alone BR player the PS3 ATM seems to be getting pretty good reviews, came top in Januarys edition of Stuff
