Downloading Illegal Material

  Fiesta ST
Alot of times when I really want to listen to a song i'll pop up youtube and listen on there. I do download alot of songs on limewire, however, if the CD is one I really want I will buy it because I find the quality is much better. When you have amps/subs etc you can really tell the difference than using your own mp3's converted into wav's

Thats a good point - my GF uses youtube for music - is that illegal? watching a video which the poster has no right to show the video.

There was a big discussion about this, because people are uploading copyrighted material on to youtube with the permission of the copyright holder.

At the end of the day, youtube will get the slap on the wrist, not you or anyone watchin.

I seriously think that the levels of choice these days, dictate the main driving force behind piracy.

Think about it. Few people would pay, I don't know, say £60 on a box set of Lost DVDs - but if their mate said I'll rip you a copy on six DVD-Rs for a fiver (or even free?) - then they'll have it.

The same applies to music. How many people not so long back, had in access of 200 albums? Very few. These days, it's common to see people with thousands of tunes on their MP3 players - most of which they never even listen to. They simply load it on to the MP3 player because they can.

I'll admit - I've done it with PC games, but I wouldn't think twice of going out and buying the original title if I thought it was good. As big_peaches said on the first page, there's an enjoyment in having the 'real thing' at times.

With films - I tend to only download stuff I wouldn't have otherwise bought. So the way I see it is me downloading the film doesn't cost the producers money - and then if I like it, I buy the DVD for the better sound and picture - and I wouldn't have bought it had I not downloaded it first so really, me downloading films is increasing the number of DVDs I buy :)
