Mic is probably on the engine cover or side intake. so yea thats standard and seen as the engine is a few Cm away from your head its also how it sounds inside !

It must be something to do with the engine being behind your ears. I drove my mates GF's SMART Roadster today (I know, not exactly the same league) but it sounded so sweet. Especially with the turbo noise. It was a lot of fun as well wit the the ESP off. A little off topic..sorry.
