Drilling footwells

Got some rubber mats to go in the front of the car, I want to rivet them down to stop them moving around.
I can't see anything that I will hit if I drill the foot well, but just want to clarify before I go all hero with the drill and knock the fuel/brake line or something out!!

Don't drill the floor! Just use tip ties and tie them to the seat runners, or velcro on the underside of the mats.
Any reason for this? Is this to stop water getting in?
Did the same to an old track car and it worked fine....although that was trailered around and not driven anywhere and stored in a garage.

Buy mats that fit ! I've never had mats move around on me.

Good grief.
I've got no carpets and did have the original mats too, but they kept moving about (plus they were knakard and needed changing). Now that I've painted the insides it's just a bit slick under foot so got some plain black rubber mats to help with grip.

Is it just a track car ? Get some gripper tape from B&Q / ScrewFix and stick it to the floor.

Velcro. 100%

f**k drilling holes in the floor of the car.

I'd imagine the existing holes were designed and reinforced to handle stresses of use and impacts. I wouldn't want to introduce weak points into the shell

I wasn't concerned about making it weaker, just concerned if I would hit something like a fuel line! It's a small French hatch back probably made of rust, surely not the safest of cars in a crash without holes in the floor.

Look underneath and check where the fuel line is before drilling, it's not rocket science lol.

If you've got some paint left.. Take some and put sand in it.. Mix it well..... Pour on floor !

Mats in a track car with no carpet. Flol.
Hadn't thought of this. Personally don't like the idea but I can see it will work. Just wanted something a bit harder wearing. I would have kept the original mats but they were fubar, and stank and I had the blocked scuttle drain problem!

It's all done now, they are in and not moving!
