Drive shaft - urgent

Car  Polo + Micra
if you brake one of them will you lose drive completely?

and if so how much from renault and is it fairly easy to change?

as i think my 1.6 has just killed one:S:(

You won't have broke one you'll have damaged those stupid little clips in the gearbox (thats there technical name).
You can easily see if there broken just have a look there the piece of long round metal connecting the driveshaft to the gearbox and to the hubs there one on each side.

looks like that?

The boots split by the looks of it. if the shaft break that horizontal metal bar kinda hangs off. lol.

And yes, if you break one, no drive to that wheel. Altough whether you've broken or whther ones popped out are two seperate things.

When I've seen them go in the past, theres usually definately 2 parts. lol. Hopefully its just popped the boot.

its hard to say whats happened to it, when my boot split grease went everywhere. hopefully its no more than that her ;)

no u should still have drive
i think it becomes really rough and knocks when turning

only what i think ive seen on here in the past so could be wrong

are right so the loud bang and loss of drive probably means it's fucked

didn't think the 1.6 had it in it to break a drive shaft lol

one of my drive shafts broke last year. Not sure why it broke but the abs light came on and the abs wasnt workin. was easily changed tho. Just try breakin hard to see if ur abs is still workin. can be dangerous as the car can slide under brakin

yeah i'll have to try and get one tomorrow and then get the camber checked the try the abs lol

Make sure u get the driveshaft for your exact year and model to. i found out the hard way that they have 2 different kinds of shafts for early 2001 and the late 2001 1.2 16v models lol

anyone know how to change the drive shaft.

the wheel turns but the shaft itself doesn't so:(

yeah:(

i think the b******s have sold the wrong replacement??? looks too long and says JB1 on the box which i think is to do with the gear box

does this come apart some how or have i fucked it???

Not sure but that split ring doesn't look healthy, can scan the relevant haynes manual pages for removal/refitting of the driveshafts if you want, let me know.

jb1 is 1.2 16V

i "think" you've got a jb3, maybe a jc5
The 1.6 and the 1.5 DCI uses either a JB3 or a JH3 box. So i've you've got a shaft for the JB1 they've given you the wrong part.

Mine got all the 1.6 relevant stuff in, though being a haynes manual the actual cars probably completely different to what they say :dapprove:.

Says there a roll pin to be removed to get the driveshaft out of that thing above (techincal terms i know) and it needs a new one fitting when you put the driveshafts back in. Assuming you've taken the pin out I can't see why you can't get the new shaft into it. I'll have a look what dialogys says about it.

yeah there is a note at the begining saying that the roll pins are on the early ones and may not be there
