DS2500s - pap? - situation + problem!!

discuss...

Heres the predictament i recently changed my brake setup as part of 60k service.

so replaced was:-

front pads (black diamond predators) these went with existing bd discs i had installed a while ago

rear discs - reno standard ones

rear pads - ferodo's DS2500s

braided lines - goodridge

brake fluid - castrol pro super dot 4

now, the situation is that the brakes now lack feel and twice iv been caught out with them, whilst they do scrub off speed, the abs doesnt kick in at all and at cold they are awful. When heated its better, but not that amazing if im honest.

Two situations have arose, one time i did tap someone, ok not a huge issue, but makes me lack confidence in the brakes now. Second time was approaching a roundabout at speed and no real feel to the pedal and unable to completely stop at the junction, luckily nothing was coming round and i did see that, but it wasnt a very satisfying feeling at all. I would add both times it was wet, but not that bad.

However, a real lack of feel is a concern. I was expecting big things and while they were bited well at first, now it doesnt seem that great and the wet has really opened my eyes to how scary it can be. Not pleasant!!

Anyone else found this?

The only possible issues I can think of are: -
Front discs need changed (30k on them?)
Abs is shagged
It was wet and thats why

im stumped and iv lost alot of confidence in the brakes now :(

I'd bleed the system check.

I'd have stuck new pads in there at the fornt anyway check them for crackeding etc.

ABS if broken usualy causes it to cut in not not cut in.

Wet weather won't help.

Fronts do most of the work, so doubt the ferodo's are the problem. More likely to be the fronts, I had brembo + DS2500 and they were fantastic. Not as good cold, but mine were better than the standard set-up when cold, and fantastic when warmed up.

Id say bleeding. ABS wont help with braking efficiency either. If you want to see if its working find an empty road and stomp on the brakes, you will feel a grinding sensation under your foot, then you know its working. ;)

As said, bleeding the system, what are the condition of the discs like? Is there a big lip? Any marks? Are they flat? Also check the condition of the hosing.

They need a bleed mate, if you replaced the fluid chances are theres still some air in the system.

rears wont make bugger all difference, my rear pads and discs are pretty much gone but mine stops on 2p.

Swap the front pads for the Mintex 1155 race pads.
Take about 5 mins of normal driving with some stopping and there warm.
Once they get hot there immense :)

Have you glazed the pads (prob front) somehow? Or got grease on them when you fitted them etc? Just a thought.

Eventually small amounts of oil or grease burn away so id say bleeding as no1. my experience is that the clios need excessive bleeding to get the feel back. As No2 id set glacing the pads.
