Due a service

  306 GTI-6
My 1.6 16v is sat on 34,450 miles at the moment, and turned 4 yrs old just before Christmas. So technically it's due its 36k/4 yr service.

I was thinking of getting this done in the next weeks or so and just wanted to check a cuple of things.

Does the price of the servicing include the consumables and parts that have to be replaced? eg the oil, filters, spark plugs etc.

Was also thinking I might as well get the aux and cam belts done at the same time. Now his is going to prove expensive and reckon I will be looking at something in the region of £700 for the service and belt change.

What do you reckon?

  RB 200 Cup!
yep oil, dfilters etc are included in the service price

reckon it will be expensive having all the belts done as well

I know its gonna be expensive, but figured, may as well get them done when I have the cash. How much did it cost when you had your 1.6?

ANd how is the 172 going?

  RB 200 Cup!
never got round to having my 36k service - traded it in for the 172 just before it was needed ;)

172's going okay altho its up for sale - need to freesome cash

Ah ok, fair dos. I had been thinking of getting a 172, but weighed up extra petrol costs, insurance, servicing etc and it would be too much of a struggle.

Hope you get sorted soon then mate. Gonna ring renault when I have the cash and discuss the cost of getting all of the above done. Planning on providing my own oil, sparkplugs, filters etc as i can get them cheaper from Halfords with my trade discount card.

It's a downer living this far north, too far for me to drive all the way down to Rentech. Even though including the petrol it would probably still work out cheaper. I just don't get the time off work.

  RB 200 Cup!
yeah sure itll be cheaper if you supply oil etc.

are there several reno delaers near you - always best to ring a few as prices do vary a lot

There is one in my local town, about 6 miles away who do actaully seem to know what they are talking about in the few dealings I have had with them. The next closest is about 45 miles away, but thats not too far, so will def compare prices. Strange they can vary as they are the same company though?

This relates to a rs clio

i can do better than that

part number - 7701476675
£136.74 +vat

plus you'll need the aux belt kit

part number - 7701477519
£107.15 +vat

and the two cam seals
7700106271 £6.64+vat
7700274026 £3.08+vat

But am in going to need new cam seals on mine if I get the cambelt changed? And how can I make sure this is done if i leave my car with Renault.

  Lionel Richie
cambelt kit 7701477014 £95.82
aux belt kit 7701477517 £37.43

but you need the same special tools as the 172/182 to do the cambelt i believe

Nice one, cheers Fred. Won't be me doing it, will be a Renault dealer. Just nice to know what they should be using so I can make sure it appears on the final receipts.

They sound about right price wise, sounds about what I payed for parts. Was a fun job too! Yes the cam/crankshaft locking tools are requied for the K4J/K4M.

  306 GTI-6
Well, its booked in for Thursday. 36k service with aux and cam belt change for £488.90. Fook me!

Can't wait to get the courtesy car to thrash it to work and back.

Nope not too bad for renault, at least the should know how to do the job properly and have the right kit.

Thats my main worry because I have heard so many horror stories about other dealerships. Pretty impressed with them so far though. When I was booking it in they asked me if they had had the car for any work before and I said possibly by the prev owner. When the girl on the service desk put in my reg details she told me that it had had its 18k service there, and that they had replaced 2 ignition coils. Fair enough I thought, but then she joked, just 2 more left to fail on you then! I was shocked, she actually knew how many cylinders my car had!

So I was quite happy at this, only time will tell though. But fingers crossed.

NOt sure about the 1.2 engine, but service schedule for timing/cam belt is actually 5 yrs or 72k. However, if the car is used for short journeys and stop start motoring they recommend changing it at 36k.

Aux velt should be checked at 18k.

I prefer not to take the chance, as the potential damage to the engine of the cam belt failing is more off putting than the cost of replacing it now.

ness motors in elgin, bit of a trek?

theres also portsoy renault up there and inverness renault.

  306 GTI-6
NOt too much of a trek for me, I only live 6 miles away! Didnt think the extra distance through to inverness was worth it as I need to drop the car off before going to work.

  306 GTI-6
Well, just got my car back from its 36k and belt change. I can actually tell it has been serviced. Everything just feels a little bit tighter and smoother. As it should after a service I suppose. Car was fine, everything ok except the reverse light switch which needed to be replaced. So, total cost including both belt changes and the switch was £506.00.
