A colleague and I have spend the whole afternoon running round the site at work isolating areas and checking switches and dual personality ports and modules and the fibres, network ports etc working away from the server room (where a strange smell had started which was making everyone gag which didn't help) EVENTUALLY :banghead: narrowing it down to the PE Staff office..

Found a ethernet cable plugged into a port and the other end into a port further down the room!! Causing packets to fly around and bring the network to its knees. All on our open day which I was busy elsewhere with aswell so I had people on the phone..

I am knackered, up and down stairs all day and it turns out to be the PE Dept who are a bunch of dicks anyway.

Dweebs. Now i'm going to send a "nice" e-mail to all the staff apologizing for the outage and CCing just the PE Dept so everyone knows who to blame. Meh.

That will be all.

You think that's bad though, I've just been tracking down a problem with software deployment through GP. Figured out none of the changes were taking effect.

A number of servers were taken offline over easter, now one of the servers resets its date back to jan 2002 when it looses power and the guy that had the job before me in his infinite wisdom set this machine to be the companies NTP server lol

The net result and after much head banging was the PDC and BDC lost replication due to hitting the tombstone time limit of 60 days by being 7 years out of date lol !

So I feel your pain !
