E85 3.0 Z4 Roadster Project

It was cheap!!!

But really, I won't be doing that, so don't worry. I'm currently debating what's going on to happen to it with regards to mods.

It is having grey winter wheels, but that's because spraying them silver is effort.

To be honest, I actually don't think CSL's suit the silver, and that's after seeing one in the flesh

Rob whats wrong with getting the 108s properly done. Chrome powder rim with silver or light grey star for true oem look. And as Luke said,

the five spokes suit it perfectly IMO:

Could not be further form the truth.

I know if I'm gonna treat myself this xmas, I'm refurbing the 108s to the above finish (even tho they don't need it at all) or buying a pair of Degus :p

I've had the 108's done once before. They're utterly disgusting quality wheels. The bolts snap with ease etc.

I'm going to run some winter wheels, during that time I'll take the 108's apart and think about what I'm going to do with them. I may get them done again, maybe.

I priced up some tyres the other day and it wasn't as bad as I thought.

If they 108's are re-done, they go all one silver, the way they look best (IMO of course).

Well, I think it's trying to break me.

Had some weird noses coming from the back end, the kind of weird that we thought was the driveshaft, fitted a driveshaft last night, but nope, it's the bearing. So that's all got to come apart again and have the new bearing pressed in. Great.

But on the upside, I have gone somewhere in terms of modifications! I may have accidently bought some Brembo's... Hear me out:

There's a brake upgrade kit available for the z4, it's 4 pot brembos and 320mm discs, coming in at a horrendous cost of almost 2 thousand pounds

I've picked up some alfa brembo's, 4 pots, I have no idea if they'll work, but I have access to fabricating kit through work. So, I'm going to have a bracket made up for nothing and give them a go. It could mean me upgrading to 320mm discs but I'll try them on the 300's maybe and also get in touch with g172 for a cost on 320mm's.

If the 320 cost isn't too high I'll get those and get the bracket made to suit.

Another positive, it passed it's MOT with flying colours, yay.

I also still haven't pulled my finger out and painted the winter/track wheels, this needs doing badly as my tyres are on their way out.

Picture updates when the brake arrive as I'll be doing a strip down and paint, and hopefully I'll have the wheels on soon.

Oh and I bought a brand new front bumper to be painted as mine has seen better days, got it for such a bargain it was rude not to.

And I've paid for it too  , honest Luke.

I've just text you mate, cheers! Hopefully soon mate, I need to fix my sunroof/underseal the car so will be speaking to Ant later :)

OK, so the car's broken at the moment, but parts I bought for it before it decided to be a tosser are arriving, wonderful.

Brembo's have just arrived, they are HUGE. Like monumentally huge, they'll look amazing under the 18's. I'll get a picture in a bit.

New front bumper is sitting at Luke's place for whenever he comes down the unit and it'll be painted.

Also have a new differential on the way (ffs).

I've seen the bumper mate, looks good for the price you paid! Good work on the brembos, I work on the basis of the more stopping power the better! If you are having a unit meet, can I gatecrash, want to see work on yours and Ants touring car! Leon saloon for the win.

Mine should have the cage in and a few bits and bobs as well :)

LSD [Question mark].

Nope, BMW standard differential. *sigh*

Not 100% sure it's the problem yet, but it was the only correct one for sale ANYWHERE (all diff's are different ratio's), so I bought it before someone else did.

Well that's always good to hear (Re: the bumper). I'm sure we can sort something out at some point.

Did you give Nathan a ring?

Not yet, figured I'd wait until Monday, didn't want to disturb the man over the weekend.

I also found out a BMW tech lives down my road, he's just hard to get hold of.

The diff is, well, that's if it is what it is. TBH I got the diff for bottom dollar and it's only done 47k.

I've got a rotation squeak/vibration coming from the passenger rear wheel. Proper weird noise. Oh and the handbrake has broken somewhere along the way, which is a QUENT on the z4. Awesome sauce.

Once I've finished fixing it, hopefully I'll move onto new bumper, brembo's and then changing the front lights for facelift ones. De-tango time.

  Never above 25mpg
Nice, hope it's all sorted! Well out of my expertise areas that! (IE No expertise).

Brembos sound good, I'd love big brakes but tbh I think all I'd need would be fast road discs and pads.

WTF does QUENT mean?? London slang??

So... got brakes?

Yep that's the one mate, considering splitting it down and selling to buy a facelift bumper though, I'm an idiot I know.

I'll probs get that one on first TBH, sell the one I take off, as mine is a let down.

Yeah I won't bother with //M bumpers, but the facelift is nice.

TBH when I look at picture of mine, the normal bumper does look good, I'm just not happy with the finish.

Rob I've got a funny squeak coming from my front right too. It's like a bird's chirp on every rotation, can usually only hear it in the works car park due to the confined space. Annoying as hell and disappears at times so hope its only simple fix. If either of us find out, we need to let the fix be known.

Gutted to hear about the problems. Hope it's all sorted soon.

LOL! They are STUPID, but as long as I can make them fit they'll go on.

I'll be buying the rebuild kit for them, rebuilding them and then re-painting and brembo logo'ing them.

I think Red, everyone disagrees, opinions? Black just seems boring.

I like bright silver calipers personally. Looks ridiculously 'fresh' behind some bright sliver wheels... Although with the car being silver too it'd look massively s**t.
Meh, f**k everyone else, red is for winners!

Rob

That's what I thought, red or black. Only two options.

Silver car, silver wheels, bit of contrast is sweet. So red'll do nicely.

Someone at work is going to build me brackets for free, fortunately I'm competent in CAD, so I'll be designing cardboard templates etc, then drawing it up myself and having it created.

LOL! Personal preference and all that, that actual hard top is for sale. I could get it for £700 I think. It's a lot of money, but it's 100% refundable as it'll sell for that ALL day long.
