electric rack question + trip computer wiring.

  LY 182
right after much messing around with options and etc the 172 conversion is now going ahead for my car - have managed to get together as much information as i need other than...

the electric rack in the 1.2 - can this just be disconnected along with the electric column wiring etc and just use it as a manual rack? for the time being untill i can sus the wiring for the electric rack.
also - my car has the digital trip computer etc - think the route im going to go down is buy the lot from accrington but im unsure how to go about getting the lot working with my trip computer dash
or would i be better off just buying the matching clocks and dash loom from the sport?

You did a search and say the huge long thread and stuff but didn't see the answers well i'll have to say quite honestly I don't think you researched much

Yep can just remove the rack need to remove the pas pump from the system I'd leave the electric rack or go to hydrolic setup. The manaul rack is one used on the lower spec older cars not powering the electric rack as such means its way to heavy to trn a proper manaul rack is still havey but usable.

Do the whole job engine out forget leaving jobs till later.

Matt helpfult at the place there a few ways round stuff the popular way is just to swop the whole dashboard wiring and engine as such.

i researched the normal way of doing things edde - but nowhere have i seen anyone mentioning the electric rack being used as a manual rack and nowhere have i seen mentioned about using the trip computer dash with it.
also one little thing i've noticed is i have found somone has (i think it was you edde) has given a quite in debth quide in to wiring the electric rack up as a standalone system, but ive not actually found anybody whos got it working yet???

Because becausse most users don't say thats how that have done it or they havn't got it to work or they've gone done a full swop and added the hydrolic PAS system. or gone to a manual rack.

16V_jon has an electric rack working on his car with a 172 engine he drew up the looms he used if you want someone who has used them as such.

Using the electric rack when its got no power to it is just stupid you won't get anwyawere its way to hard swop to a manual rack and its easier buit still IMO to hard.

Since the electric rack is so good and relaible and simple etc its IMo silly not to use it just give it power anbd preferably a speedo signal( othersie its very very light to use) and it works.
