Electrical Indication Warning Light!!

Well it all began when i was in Llanelli. I got in the clio, handbrake was on and gear was in neutral. I turned the engine on and it was fine for a couple of seconds then it just cut out for no reason. I turned the ignition off then back on and the 'Electrical Indication Warning Light' came on the dash. Got a bit worried, so I looked in the manual and it said 'Contact your local Renault garage' - GREAT HELP! Anyways I drove back to college really paranoid cos of this light that appeared on the dash - it was fine. When I left college that evening the light appeared again, so I carefully drove home. When I got home, I told my Mum and she phoned Renault and they said that they could connect it to their machine for £82 to diagnose the problem. Afterwards, my Mum went to the car, switched the engine on ..... and no light appeared - strange. I didnt believe her so i tried myself - the light didnt come on! The light didnt appear this morning either. Went to a garage today to book the service and explained about the light too. They said to keep an eye on it, shouldnt be too serious though. But I'm still quite paranoid about driving it cos I know there is a problem somewhere, otherwise the light wouldnt have appeared in the first place! Clio is booked in for Friday..

I really dont know whats wrong? Can you think of anything it could be?

can you describe the light please? Was it orange?

could be a few things but my money is on the ECU cage at the back of the engine- the metal cage that protects the ECU connector becomes loose and rubs on the wires going to the ECU casuing a short circuit.

its an orange light in the centre of the dash..

looks like a heart monitor on the top and a spring underneath.. sorry cant find any pics on the internet, it would be in your manuals tho

oh and by the way.. ive got a 02 plate 1.2 16v extreme

yeah sorry it's a dodgy phone pic, but i think that's the one you describe. As you say it indicates an electrical fault. Could be one of many things but jons is probably a good guess.

It comes on with mine from time to time.

It stops it from starting often and when I do get it started its as if only one cylinder is working.

I can't get the car to shift above 20mph.

Then I stop it and it is often fine.

Not happened to me for a good few months now though.

Renault said they think it might be the fuel supply but to proper diagnose the problem will be 3 hours labour and over 200 quid.
