Electrical problem

Earth problem is the most likely cause. It could also be a genuine sensor or even a coolant system problem but start simple before getting really involved.

Check the main ECM/Loom earth that is bolted to the front of the block just below the main coolant pipe to the rear of the waterpump... you will have to get under it and remove the under try to do this. If you've got a multi-meter handy put it to Resistance testing mode and see what its reading. If that's okay go to the gearbox and check that is okay to.

I assume the car itself is still running fine?

Yeah car is running fine, and fan still kicks in!!

When the fan kicks in temp still rises and the drops when it turns off! So it's drawing current from somewhere maybe! I'll have a look

With resistance values you want them to be as low as possible eg. as close to 0.00 Ohms as you're gonna get (But that's not going ot happen due to the wire construction itself). Normally a good stable Earth on a Clio would read around 0.01 - 0.05 Ohms.

A wire brush, some copper grease and some effort will help you improve any 'poor' earths.

Ok mate cheers!

I changed then sensor last week (cts) although it was a Gsf job. the fan wouldn't work (4th switch on there) the fan now works as it should, I cleaned up both the gear box earths (one at back and passenger side one aswell)

Very very slightly But not to much, it's more if somethings constant!
Like heaters and lights, although the stereo doesn't affect it

I don't know if this is normal for a rs or not!

On idle if I turn the fans or lights on the revs drop to 500rpm from around 800+
