'Electronic Fault' warning light...

  53' 172 Cup
I was driving to get petrol earlier today, came to a roundabout and my car started to jump as if stalling when pulling away - it never cut out completely just wouldnt let me go above around 15mph without semi stalling and the electronic fault light coming on. i first thought was cos i was running on vapour and the car was coughing as the last remnants of fuel were being used.but the warning light for a fault was on... anyway managed to get to the petrol station, fill up and when i pulled away this time the same thing happened but also the exhaust fume warning light came on...!! so now that stays on all the time and the other light only comes on when you drive (it will idle and rev perfectly). anyone got any ideas before i take it down to the garage?

They are around £250. The first thing to do is clean it out with some carb cleaner, oil from the breather tends to muck up the TPS built in the body. ive fixed loads by simply cleaning them up.
