Elephant Mod

  172 MKII FF
Hi,

I've just had a look in the 'existing customers' section of the Elephant website and I changed my car policy so that it includes modifications to filters and exhaust. Elephant want another £145 off me - is this worth it? Or would it be worth not telling them? What happens if I don't tell them?

Best to tell them mate, if you get caught, they will void your insurance!
Your first declared Mod will always be a lot, with elephant is seems to get cheaper the more you declare, well it did for me :)
1st mod - exhaust +£80
2nd - induction kit +£00
3rd - lowered +£2.50

though i think your only allowed five, not sure. Best to ring them anyway

Guys

Wow that seems high to add those mods.

When your insurance is due please give us a try, we could add these modifications to the quote free of charge.

If you would like to get a figure please complete your details on our website www.greenlightinsurance.com and i'll email you back a price.

Best Regards
Neil

Elephant will not replace your mods!
neither will they give you cash for them.

if you dont declare them though you can expect any claims to be thrown out the door.

If I do declare them, will they cover the exhaust and Pipercross Induction Kit of their full cost?

I was with Elephant previously and I'm sure they told me they won't actually replace the mods if you had to claim!! Best the phone them and check, or try someone else. Greenlight are supposed to be really good (But they don't insure 172 cups  ) them or Adrian Flux can usually give good quotes.

Can I just comment here and this is in reply to both Neil at Greenlight and also to other insurance companies with regards to modifications.

When I had my accident where my Cup was written off I had all my mods declared with Greenlight. All well and good. However, when it came to pay out time a few things to take into account.

If you fit coilovers which cost say £400 then you'd expect them to covered right? Well the insurance company, as they did with me, pointed something very clever out - clever to them that is.

OEM parts have value. This is seen, not at the price we flog them for on here, £100 or so, but at RRP prices. You could in turn fit your said coilovers which cost you £400 as above, but if you write your car off you could end up out of pocket as the price they are worth is struck off against what they would cost new from Renault, perhaps twice the price...

Just something to think about, yes these insurance companies may well cover the value of your mods but you certainly won't get anything back from them.
