Elvington track day experience

Just "popped" into Elvington whilst passing york, after seeing Rich-Ds post yesterday and ended up being taken round in some other guys cup...feck me that thing was amazing and nothing touched it on the day (was wettish so RRDs were bit tail happy)...including a 300bhp scooby which was certainly trying! Read plenty of reviews on the cup, but till youve been flat out in one, just dont do it justice! Wondering if made right decision cancelling CUP due 1st Jan for 182...though if its half as good Ill be smiling :)

sure a 172 would have been right up there too - first time to track day and was just genuinely impressed with what I saw!! Have to keep eye out for trackday meets posted on here

Were you the guy in the Beemer then?!

If so I saw you...

Was very wet though and the standard Contis were performing mailto:cr@p">cr@p (as expected), but the other Cup was running Avon ZV1s which he said were great and he had plenty of grip.

Need to get these Contis wrecked on mine and switch to something like Eagles, Rainsport 1s, Avons, etc... next time.

Never done a trackday in the Cup before, although Ive done several in other cars and I was very impressed with the Cup!

Was dry for some of the morning session, but started raining mid-morning and only really started to dry out again in the last hour, so only limited experience on a dry line.

Was different to the mk1 172 Ive done a couple of days in previously, and I was really happy with the car. Much more turn in than the mk1 and had the lift off oversteer Ive been used to with my Pugs.

Roll on next time! ;)

Yep Rich-D that was me in the beemer...unfortunately that is the old mans car, but nice to get away from the wreck im driving at the moment for the day. I will definitely consider a track day in the future, though concerned (obviously) about the insurance, as dont think people bother with T/D insurance and bit costly...noticed your plate was nicely disguised...insurance motive behind that?

As for the tyres...the guy in the other cup was on his 8th set and think 3rd set of pads on his 4.5K miles motor...could be a bit costly if you drive that hard!! Good to see some pics..maybe see you at the next one!?

Thought it was you...

I was hovering about just as you were leaving and thanking him for the ride.

He uses the Cup purely as a track car though, hence the alarming wear rate of his tyres & brakes!

Mine was 6 months old on Friday and has covered about 5.5k miles now, but the front tyres were hardly worn before I wen to Elvington, and even now after thrashing round there all day they are still ok and will now be going on the back.
