emission light

Turned the car (172 mk2) on and off quickly last night and on the second start the emission light came on and stayed on:(. The car is starting and running as good as always, but the bloody light is still on!!!!

Do I need to get Renault to check this out, or there a way to reset the light?

Many Thanks

Mattie

Ps. The car is running a sports cat, both sensor used

Its problems the second lambeda sensor which has caused the fault.

Remove the sensor tape up the connections and have the fault cleared.

Cheers Edde for the reply. Ive had the sports cat on for what...4 months with no problem. Why the light decided to come on yesterday I dont know. Anyway got a bloke to coming to do a diagnostic test on the car tomorrow.

Fingers crossed it will only be a reset job.:D

Its just one of those things some people have decats with both sensors with no trouble at all. Others have decats and they set the emmision warning light off straight away. You can still use the car with no performace loss though if you want.

Ive been advised (on a V6) that disconnecting the battery for 30 secs will at least reset the light ... even tho the error will remain logged. Expect its similar on the 172.

Cheers for the replys guys. The cat I have is not a decat as such, its a Janspeed sports cat. Its is ment to be complient with the emission laws and free flowing like a decat.

Anyone fancy explaining the how these sensor work, in case the diagnostic bloke trys to pull the wool!!!!!;)

The thing is the sensors expect a ertain realing difference from the start to the end of the cat. However the sports cat will not be as good at making a clean emmisions so the sensors thing the cats failed hence set the light off.

Its because the sensors arnt expecting results like that even though they are legal. The ECu is programmed to expect a chnage of say .03 and the sports cat give a change of .06 which whilst still bringing the car to legal spec thows up a warning light.

Guys,

Had the diagnostic man to look at the car, and the fault light was for.........(drum roll)..............the brake pedal switch:confused:.

Nothing to do with the emissions after all!!!

I am now fault light free:D , I hope...............

  172 cup'd extreme

when the light comes on in a 172 its either the throttle possition sensor , knock sensor brake pedal switch or the first 02 sensor cos their all crap
