Engine Cleaning

I know there are thousands of threads on this topic...

but what product is best for cleaning the cast part of the engine?! :S

Mines pretty clean but doesnt sparkle?!

Any thoughs please

i want it as clean as this..

They don't look like the top pic from the factory - someone done a 'paul' and painted it ? The casting was never that bright.

You'll find that top pic has been painted. A tin of VHT silver paint will do you a nice job! Don't use hammerite, as it'll have burnt before you get to 3000rpm!

Wonder if you got it blasted with some very fine shot it would come up that bright ?

done a Paul lol :eek: sounds like my dad! the pic was pinched off EVO website from a 54 plate car - must be a good camera then! there must be a product on the market place that can make cast shine more!?

Perhaps i should Brilo it? :S no joke - could work?? or wet and dry it call and polish it up with autosol??!!

Perhaps i should Brilo it? :S no joke - could work?? or wet and dry it call and polish it up with autosol??!!

Wet and dry will lose the texture, then Autosol will then make it go shiny.

Fine wire wool and metal polish may work.

what the stuff you use for cleaning copper tube - my dads a plumber??

I just recently ( last week ) used some Wet soapy [SIZE=-1]emery[/SIZE]paper Fine grit to Clean a Induction kit pipework ( to get the s**t off ) then some Very fine wire wool then Autosol for AGESSSSS, its now lush, will be alot of agro to do a engine cover as you cant get to it all. I would take ti apart then get it bead or sand blasted then pro polished.

i remember years ago when i removed all the paint from my rad on my mini (copper underneath) boy it looked good and i won a lot of awards but it was a flipping night mare! :eek:

ill have to get some pics us one day..
