Autoglym engine and machine cleaner , minimal amount of water to rinse off , cover any electrics , some old microfibre cloths and brushes . Dress the whole engine with Autogym vinyl and rubber care , take it for a blast to dry if off . Voila !

i had a fiesta rs turbo b4 my clio, and the oil cap popped off on it (common problem) and oil went everywhere, so i took it to a garage to get a new clutch put on it b4 i sold it, and the chap there told me to get the engine steam cleaned b4 i let anyone view it cus it looked a mess, so i paid £15 to get it cleaned up and it came up brand new! WELL worth the money if you ask me, and you dont have to do ne thing apart from pick it up shiney and new :)

oh cleaning the car yourself is a must i agree, but engines are a bit of a bugger to clean! if you get it steam cleaned then touch it up yourself then its happy days! haha

Ive been told most of those hand car wash places do it, but i was luck the garage i took my car too had another car cleaning garage right next to it.... best bet is to ask your local garage its quite a popular service so im sure they will know where to go!

AG Machine and Engine cleaner is really good stuff. Just spray on, leave for a few minutes then hose off. Give a quick dry with a microfibre and then some AG rubber care and you're away.

Buy some AG engine and machine, soak the engine bay. Buy a £39 pressure washer from B&Q and blast the s**t off. Works everytime.

Exactly what parts need covered up when blasting it with a powerhose?
And what could you cover these parts with if you get it steamed? :)

If you have an Open Induction kit, cover that. Also cover the plugs. Other than that, everything else is fine. Just use your common sense and don't go mad.

Coolio :)

What about steaming, surely you can't cover things with plastic bags etc - wouldn't they melt?

Tin foil. That's what I read on a guide somehwere. Acts as an unbrella.

It would be nice if someone could take a picture of their engine bay and highlight all of the parts which need covering (electrics, delecate parts etc.) for those of us who don't know.

Great idea!
Might even do that myself and see if I get it right (to the theme tune of the Generation Game) ;)
