Engine conversion 2.0 20v

i have benn wondering about a engine conversion (as most of you know)

was looking to go for a 172 from a 1.2 but was told yesterday that i could also have a fiat 2.0 20valve or a audi 1.8 turbo engine from a A3 into it,

Can these be done and if so are they hard as fook,

sorry to keep driving you mad people.

I'd just buy a 172 / 182 mate . The money you throw at it with an engine conversion won't be worth it in the long run , you'd never get your money back when you come to sell it , plus you'd struggle to sell it with a different engine in anyway .Going from a 1.2 to a 2.0 will be more than ample i'm sure :)

If you are determined to do it, either go for a F4R (172 engine) or for a audi 1.8 20vT. Wouldnt go fiat route. F4R will be an easy swap, and audi will be simple as its been done before.

ok matey, so you reckon a 172 is best bet, can you put a turbo on them, as ktech do it but for £4k plus, is the audi engine turbo?

mofo, can i just ask how old u are..?
i think an engine conversion is way over your head if your asking if the 1.8 20vT is a turbo. This is the legendary VAG engine that is in the turbo golfs, A3's and seat's cupra range.

My advice, sell up and buy a 172.!

try more like 7/8k when complete. Get a 172, sound advice.

Am going with the majority on this and saying buy a new car. Either 172 or maybe something from the vag range (golf gti, leon cupra r, audi s3)

I think Matt Balck was talking about selling his Audi powere Clio (you'd ned to get it re road legal but its got 420hp or so last time I spoke to him).
VAg engine is the way to go for ultimate power the gearox is better built and there more tunning bits out there but its not cheap. 172 parts can be got for £1.5k including brakes and gearbox etc.

im considering the VAG 1.8 20v Turbo route myself (unsure of what state of tune yet) Was just wondering how you would go about insuring this?

Ring around its only specilists who will talk to you.
You might be worth looking into the kit car catagory as with enough modifictions the car become a kit car which is cheap to insure relitivly.

If you do a engine replacement, you'd have to uprate the brakes and all the other bits. Wasted money really. Just sell and buy something faster :)
