Engine Conversion! help!

  mk2 renault clio 1.2
got a mk2 renault clio 1.2 and want a bigger engine,
what would be the best engine to replace mine with?

A bigger one.
Seriously though - a 172/182 conversion would make the most sense - but for all the effort and expense involved you'd probably be better off buying a 172/182 in the first place.

The best ? For what...? Power / economy / finance reasons / straight swap as yours is duff...?

I'm assuming you mean more power .. so, buy another car. The insurance increase alone negates the idea TBH.

I thought this when I fiest got my 1.2. It was how I justified spending far too much money on it 'I will keep it, shove a new engine then it's like a sport!'

Not worth it, buy a different car.

Take it from me... Engine conversions (unless you've got pots of money!) are not worth it. Just buy the car you want.

A 'semi' decent 172 ph2 can be bought for under £1500 now so its not worth the aggro.

If you want a wolf in sheepskin clothing to surprise people, there are better cars to do it with.
Probably cheaper to buy a sport and put non sport bumpers on it.

Yep, if your going to do it all properly then it really isn't worth the money. I was seriously looking into it on my previous Clio (1.2 16v), even got as far as getting quotes from people like Flux. Ended up buying a LY 182 and I haven't looked back. Glad I spent the money on a Sport rather than throw money at a conversion.

And I wouldn't even look at buying a converted Clio. Too much risk involved so you'd be stuck. However, I'd bite your arm off for a LY haha

Conversion has to be something interesting and unusual to make it worth doing really. My old mk1 (RSI) with Spider engine was good becuase it was close to being un-replicable.

I've still got the engine and I might put it in something like a mk2 RSI eventually.
