Engine Conversion (mk1)

  Mk1 Clio F4R'd
Hi guys,

Just running some idea through my head. I have a Clio mk1 phase 3 1.2 RL. Very basic spec, no rev counter either etc.

I want to know what my options are in terms of doing an engine conversion? I was thinking of sourcing a written off Valver or Williams and using the engine and gearbox as well as the rear beam for the brake discs.

So if i do source a doner car, what other work is involved?

And what are my chance of putting a 172 engine and box in?

Cheers guys...

ps: did try a simple search, but couldnt find anything for a RL

if u can get a complete donor car....easy enough mate.

will need eng/box, loom, and be rude not to widetrack it out to the 16v spec of course you could always go with the williams widerack too and get some valver wings on. youl need the valver bonnet anyway to clear the cam cover

What benefits would the widetrack do?

Really dont want to use the bonnet or the wings, want it as much as a sleeper look as possible. Also the fact that i'll have to put a phase 1/2 front end instead of my phase 3. Hmm, cheers for the reply, will keep a look out for doner cars :D

You will need some kind of bonnet vent though I would imagine as the huge scoop was designed because the engine would over heat!

Valvers didn't have the wide track only the williams did IIRC

Mk1 engines in will be easy, 172 will be nice to do but a lot more work involved!

valver is the same track as williams iirc (with the exception of wider wheel ofset)

With the full loom and ecu etc, it's a straight forward conversion really. Best of luck mate.

just buy a 16v or Williams mate, easier, cheaper and will look much better.

Ashy..wont be a sleep though will it?

Already got a lovely exterior on my 1.2. And hearing how easy it is to do the conversion, i might as well. Can't sell my car for the money i want, especially in this market. So i think this is the right option for me; also makes me want to keep the car until its dead :D

Careful buying valver engines. They've done a lot of miles by now. Alot of them would benifit massively from a good head rebuild. The advantage is that new blocks/heads are cheap as chips as long as you don't want williams components.
