Engine flushes, yay or nay?

Simple question:

Engine flushes at oil change on renault engines, good or bad?

Looking for some reasoning to your answers.

Depends what engine it is really, generally on petrol engines id say dont bother just drop the oil. Remember doing a flush on my old clio 16v, it rattled like hell after, sounded like a CVH.

Then on the other hand it can be a good thing, Renault K9K engine for example, theyre quite prone to the rings carboning up and seizing to the piston, causing low compression. In this instance an engine flush every so helps to stop it.

No need. Go V-Power all the way.

If your engine is "loose" then it's a catch 22 - better to know, but almost better not to (ignorance is bliss).

EDIT: Damn I'm pissed forget it

could it cause problems? going to do mine when i'm changing the oil out? potentially cause leeks

  Whichever has fuel
I used to just buy some cheap oil, and run that through, then put the proper stuff in afterwards.

Thats what I did on my Evo and Impreza.

I personally would never use engine flush. Can release a whole load of ballache.

I've never bothered with it in the past, But this time thought "Why not"...

I used some Comma advanced engine flush IIRC!

put the stuff in and went for a 15 mile blast.... Dropped the engine oil when it was HOT and the amount of crap that came out was unreal (baring in mind the oil was only 4K old) It was black as hell, with lots of carbon/sooty lumps? and some nice metallic fleck LOL!

Filled up with fresh oil, started up and the engine was instantly more quieter... The next day went a 350 mile drive to Newquay and the car defiantly felt alot smoother, I have always used the same oil for the past 4 changes and never noticed this difference before.

Better or Worse... IMO the engine did (and still does after driving 900 miles over 3 days) defiantly feel smoother, quieter and better on fuel.*

*even the resident expert.. Girlfriend said "what have you done, the car feels nice'er", so there is the proof we all need ;)

Thats the same stuff i used and have to say i got the same out of my engine lol.

It was a dark bronze when i checked the stick to see how much was in it, I put hte engine flush in and fast idled it for 15 mins and dropped the oil and couldnt believe the shite that came out, My fuel consumptions better and it seems a lot more responsive too

I have to sell these at work and tbh they are pretty good, i get them for free as "samples" the engine flush cleans out the sump(loosens /dissolves the gunk) and neutralise the acids that eat the sump from the inside out. i got the boys to put a sample through when they done my service, and it was disgusting what came out of the car (its first 12.5k service and had an oil and filter done at 6250miles) and the car did feel alot smoother after that more son than when the oil and filter was done. ive also put a fuel system treatment through basically putting one of them through once a year does the same cleaning to the fuel system and top of the engine as running v-power for a year does.
The engine flush is only adviseable on engines under 45k, or not had one in about 45k. its actually detramental to cars over this, as the carbon deposits that cause the engine errosion (that the flush cleans out and therfor prevents) plug the holes they create. if you stick a flush through and erroded engine, it washes away the carbon deposit and can cause oil leaks.

well when i change my oil the car always feels smoother and quiter so maybe you are all getting this confused with the engine flush making your engine quiter....i have heard bad reports about engine flushes the alternative is to run cheap oil is this a good idea on a turbo car prob not as its bound to be mineral oil which carbonises up the oil feed to the turbo due to the heat.personally what the other poster said get it hot then drain whats the problem caller?

I used flushing oil when I last changed the oil but afaik your only supposed to leave it ticking over for 30 minutes then drain it, not drive the car? :S

Massively thins the oil down and could do damage. Ive seen it happen on an impreza when i was a mechanic.
Just get the car red hot and drop the oil out. No need to do it imo. Just get the car hot
What he said, would never use it in my own cars. Best way is to get the oil VERY hot and drain it like that

Correct, As it breaks the crap down i wouldnt fancy driving and putting load on the engine with that in all the shite floating about in the oil.

Wouldn't want to be using engine flush every oil change either, Once every other change.

Unless its an older Audi that suffer the black death

when people are saying there could be leaks created from using flushes like Forte for example, where would these most likely be? I was just going to leave the car idling for about half an hour with it in and then drop the oil. Is it really that much of a lottery? Car's done 56K and flush has never been used on it.

use the forte stuff and work on every car at work thats in for a service and not had any problems. used it on mine too with no problem and it deff cleans it out. normal just leave it idling for 15 min while i do other stuff. talking to the forte rep its only really a problem on really old swith well over 100k on
