Engine Mounts going?

  Clio 182
Hey up.

I spent a little while this afternoon under my 182 sealing up the exhaust.

Within a few weeks of getting the car it had a new centre section and I have had a load problems with the exhaust since, new mounts, the exhaust joints breaking, some d*ck 'technician' leaving the bolts out of the exhaust mounts meaning they kept falling off.

Anyway, the recent problem is that the joint between the cat and manifold leaks, I understand that this is a problem that all 172/182 enjoy but mine is worse when accelerating hard, is this a sign that the engine mounts are on their way out and allowing too much engine movement?

They do feel slightly ropey, although i can't tell whether it's me being paranoid or it's genuinely gotten worse :)

Any help apprieciated.

Cheers, Donut.

Mine leaked in exactly the same place, i thought it was my mounts so got em checked and they were fine, Got the exhaust clamped again then blow me 7 days later same thing happend (i tightened it up pretty much weekly for 4 months). In the end i bought a new cat and touch wood 3 months down the line no blowing ! Hope that sheds some light

I don't fancy shelling out for a cat :( Maybe I'll go for a decat instead if need be. I'll start with the simple stuff, i'll have a look at the mounts and also get a new cat/downpipe 'olive' an see how it goes.

Do you think replacing the cat's sprung bolts with solid ones would be a suitable fix or will it put too much strain on the welds?

I changed my bolts and stuff too, infact i couldnt tighten them up any more as they were at there limit but it still worked its way loose. The cat to manifold join dont sit too well its a wierd setup, i got a new cat and cut my centre box off all costs including fitting and stuff came to £260, Exhaust sounds nice now with a silencer gone too... If it was me i'd get a new cat coz to be honest i tried everything from paste to welding but it still came loose. Now my new cat is on it's been fine for months. Good luck though but dont hold out on bolts, i tried in vain to sort mine out as i hated the sound of it blowing but nothing worked, well for no longer than a week any way.. hope you sort it

Man, sounds like a lot of work.

If worst comes to worst I'll give that a blast, nothing appears to be wrong with the cat at all so I'll try a number of other things first, starting with new seals and bolts, then look at an uprated dogbone and finally i'll pull the engine forward on the top mounts. Fingers crossed.

The annoying thing is that it's only just started doing it!

Cheers, Donut.

It turns out that the dogbone and top engine mount on my car have had it and that, as suspected, is causing the exhaust to blow on the cat/manifold joing under acceleration.

New mounts tommorow then, boo.

Looks like the new tires will have to wait till next week, ah well.

Cheers for you input.
