Engine Oil, Performance Worth It?

Not imo. Longs its a good quality brand, any fully synth should suffice. I've never had no probs. I used to always use Silkoline stuff, but its like piss, not worth it imo.

It depends really on application, in general, no, but you need to compare costs.

Opie Oils are a great place to ask for advice and buy oil.

You learn a bit about oil from owning a car with an oil temperature gauge. When I had my first valver, I found the Castrol Magnetec ran hotter than anything else (as did others) so I now avoid this like the plague.

does your car compete in events where its sat flat out all the time? ring road into work? traffic light grand prix? reverse parking in the staff car park?

Don't know if this helps but when i first got my 172 i wanted to give it an oil and filter change so i bought the best halfords own brand 5w40 fully synthetic because it stated it was for performance engines and enthusiastic driving. NEVER AGAIN! Made my car tap and generally run rough. I change it every 2000 miles now and just use halfords 15w40 and it runs like a dream. And as for Castrol Magnetec, Its no better than the cheaper alternatives

Majority of folk run 5w40. Guessing what you saw with the Halfords was evidence of the poor quality rather than the grading.

End of the day Halfords / Comma is s**t basic oil. You can do a lot better for hardly much more outlay.

Mobil 1, 28 quid from TMS

I've been using that fully syn stuff from opi oils called Futums or somthing ( Cant remeber).

Anyone else use this stuff. Seems ok to me.

5W40 is the viscosity recommended for the 1*2, isn't it?

I was told that Halfords 5W40 is made by Comma and that Comma also supply Renault. So the oil you bought should be OE spec? Not sure on the validity of the claim though...
