Engine probs @ only 8k

 Car looks a bit like this at the minute!

When do the problems stop?

After the problem with the trip computer reseting itself diagnosed as a faulty instrument panel and replaced. We had the car back and felt like this again :D However this only lasted about 2 days as a more serious problem developed:(. Engine progressively started to sound more diesel like and eventually like a tractor. So out came the AA to see if it was drivable to the dealers. They said no and towed it to the dealers for us. The dealers have now had the car for 2 days and dont know what the problem is. On the first day i phoned up to see what progress they had made. Only to find they had "had a look" and "need to fetch someone technical". Now between you and me i thought the receptionist wasnt used primarily to diagnose problems anyway. Today i have more news they think its a pulley failure but they cant tell me which one and how long or how they intend to fix it. We are without curtesy car as they dont have one available yet and we arnt priority as Renault only cover you for the first year regards courtesy cars.

The car is a 172 exclusive, 1 year old and has done 8k please tell me all this work will be covered under warrenty. Has anyone got that address to write to a renault HQ as i am thinking of giving the car back, or asking for some better service. The car seemed to lose power recently and fuel economy has droped from 40-50mpg to 31 - 33mpg is this connected?

That may have been incorrect reading from the trip computer when the instrument panel was faulty then? So if its reading 33mpg thas about right then? Damn i thought it was really economical giving me a max of 50mpg the bloody trixter. Anyone got that address/contact details of that guy @ Renault HQ, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had the cam belt tentioner(?) replaced at 8k, a bearing had gone. Also sounded like a tractor, lost power etc...wasnt hard to diagnose coz the dealer found the fault in 10 mins...just a thought.

Thanks viv thats very re-assuring, did the problem have a knock on effect on any other components. engine wear etc. has the car been ok ever since? Was it covered under warrenty?

No probs!! The cars been mechanically 100% ever since, Ive now just reached 15k. :)

Yes it was covered by warranty, the part cost Renault £150.
