engine temperature mis-reading

for the past week my engine temperature hasnt been working properly it takes forever for it to say the engine is even slightly warm and wen i put me foot down the needle goes down! the engine seems fine and is not over heating ideas chaps?

Most likely Thermostat stuck open - around £10 pattern or around £20 renault
or Coolant Temp Sensor - similar price's
