enlarged throttlebody?

Car  R35 GTR
I was thinking of making the inlet at the throttle body larger, I am sure you can buy one off GDI. But I have facilities to do it myself.;)

What sort of gains will it give?

On my 200 BRM i have changed from the 48 mm std one to the Lotus Elise 52 mm one same engine just 4 mm larger and worth every penny .

I could get the plenum side bored out, and could rebuild the current steppermotor into a new package i think.

I dont think there is a straight swap on this engine. :-(

nice, would they be a similiar price to that then?

would it be a good mod to do with a reworking of the inlet manifold?

Fred do you have any knackered throttle bodies I can play about with?

I would prefer to get this done myself as the machine shop we use at work can do the machining cheap.

you need someone who can do rapid prototyping to make you a new plastic cover (you have to cut off the old one)

i have 2 sapre 172/182 FBW TB's but they ain't knackered

How much for one then? Give me a good price!

The place I work at design and make prototype motors, I'll have a word to see if there are any local firms for the plastic covers.

Or our uni had a mahoosive rapid prototyping machine.

his is a race one, as we dicovered last year its pointless on a road car hence forth we canned the idea

Its big enough to support well over 200bhp, the 90 deg bend before the TB due to spce is more of an issue.

as said theres no point, especially a 67mm or whatever a few are running theres off 300bhp touring cars that rev to 10 grand its probably more likely to bog down at full throttle

i know people are saying this wouldn't be worth it but i bet it wouldnt take much work to make it bigger plus remove the plenum and enlarge the opening on that a little too, cant do it any harm could it?

might be tempted have the work done if it's not going to cost too much

Alex, I think you're missing the point. The actually TB is'nt restrictive, it's the bends before and after it.

i have a bigger tb courtesy of gdi and i love it, felt the difference in throttle response over the standard ph1 172 body straight away, the car just feels alot more lively!

i know what they're saying but at the same time I also know what a difference it made on my cooper s,

add to that i've got some silicone pipes coming to me by the end of the week to improve airflow and to allow me to ditch the crappy intake pipe which looks like it should be sticking out the back of a dryer.

might have to get a second hand throttle body and get it engineered out, cant see it costing an awefull lot of money.

Is the throttle body on the Cooper S restrictive though when tuning it? The TB on the Clio is'nt unless, as Ben said, you're going further than 200+. T

Folk on this forum are obsessed with anything to do with the intake systems on 172's / 182's

Loads more areas to concentrate on with out p****** about with 1- 2bhp gains ..

such as

i could get the tb engineered and a new butterfly for less then £100
find me a mod that costs less than that but gains 1-2 bhp

They taste good.

It's common knowledge that the TB is'nt a restiction, I just agreed. Hardly tea bagging.....

common knowledge to whom? because someone on the internet that "claims" they don't make any difference and everyone jumps on the bandwagon? amazing...

I've decided I'm now a car tuner, BecauseJesusSaysSo Technology Tuning (tm) is my new company. I've decided that I'm an NA Clio tuning specialist and that using swiss cheese (commonly found in supermarkets) in your airbox instead of the OE filter, inlet matching and a 5" straight through system will give you 100bhp at the wheels increase. It costs only £5k, I've not actually done it or physically proved it works, but what the f**k, it works because I say so

... give me strenght superman
