Epic Emmisons MOT fail Help needed

  Dacia Logan
Hi I am new to this forum and some purists might think why am I posting this on here but was hoping that someone might be able to advise on my 1.4 inj Clio engined Dacia Logan 2005 (french registered). It has failed the french equivalent of the MOT badly. I have since taken it to different Renault garages and they said that the Lambda sensors were broken. I had both replaced and then retested it. It failed again. I was then told by Renault that the Cat was probably dead and needed replacing. So I had that replaced and still it failed. Both times I gave the car a good run and got the cat nice and hot before the test. Doing some research on the web, it has been mentioned that the injectors in my clio 1.4mpi engine could be replaced and this might sort the problem- is this worth trying next? Other problems could include ECU? Any help/ suggestions appreciated as this is driving me nuts and costing me alot of time and money!

I really would like a Logan myself. just a few questions:

What is the overall condition of the vehicle (runs okay, not using more fuel than normal) and are there any poor sections of exhaust allowing air in?

What were the actual emission readings?

Thanks for your reply Mike! Vehicle is in good overall condition, but when I bought it 6 months ago, I think it had been sitting around for a while. The engine bay and fuel filler cap area were very dirty. It runs well but I would say it was slightly down on performance and using more fuel than normal before changing the lamba sensors and cat. This seems to have improved now. The new cat is not an official dacia renault part as they are only available in Romania. It is a German made Connex part suitable for a Dacia Logan 2005 bought on the internet. The Co2 levels were 8%. Any ideas where the MAF is located on the clio 1.4 inj engine?

It doesn't have a MAF I'm afraid it's uses a MAP sensor.

I'd be tempted to have it plugged in and have the live data liked at and pay attention to the coolant temp sensor value to be sure it's accurate. Also take a look at the MAP sensor when the engine is off (value should be around atmospheric) then when the engine is running it should be showing vacuum.

If all looks good above then have the engines timing physically checked as I suspect it is out slightly.
