Ermmmm...Help!!!...Leak!!!

  Renault Clio 172
This weekend my boyfriend got a bit wet whilst I was driving the Clio. Somehow I have a leak coming from the sunroof and it's coming through next to the door where the two plastic trims connect by the sun visor.

Only problem is I have my alarm sensors there so don't want it to affect these.

Anyone had a similar problem??? Or know of a solution??? My boyfriend soaked up most of the water sitting in the sunroof gap and it didn't leak this morning, but need to sort it preferably without taking out the roof lining if this is possible????

Any help would be great !!!

Thanks, Stacey

have a look at the ariel base water can get through there, or through one of the sunroof seals. i have had the main seal replaced i silconed round the outside of the sunfoof surround as it was lifting off the roof slightly and ive silconed the arial down and the damn thing still leaks lol, so if all these fail u may have to take the roof lining down see where its coming from

Nah, just carry a towel - it's a lot cheaper... lol

(well, until you get about 8 hours of heavy rain then get in to drive off and you can hear it slooshing down the A-pillars and round the headlining... :S lol)

They all seem to leak though!

mk1 ?

its very common ( mine does it badly)

can be a few things, check all the seals in the sunroof and the joins outside to the body (thats where mine cimes in) and also check the seal around the base of the aerial, inside and out!

it looks like ive wet myself sometimes, on left hand bends, a nice big stream can come pouring out right into my lap, lovely!

this happened to me also it was the seal on the sunroof that had developed a gap and was letting water down the pillers and filling the floors with water i had to strip the interior, clean and dry then seal the sunoof with window sealer (the stuff to put bouble glazing in- worked a treat) hope this gets it sorted- check the floor if its not wet then u might have caught it early but dont leave it get it sealed asap!

poke a bicycle gear or brake cable inner in the gaps between panels to unblock any drains maybe? worked in my 205

Boyfriend had a look for me and looks like it's just water stuck in between the sunroof glass and the actual start of the seal and it's finding it's way in somehow. Hasn't leaked since the weekend but might take it into a garage to have a look at.

Thanks for all the help!

And BigLee: cheeky sod!

Remove the glass,or open the sunroof right up,and rub soap inot the rubber seal to soften it and then coat wiht vaslaine and don't open again.

Alternativly if that doesn't work it can be comming in around the arial, as there is no rubber seal, take this off (nut underneath, remove console) and put a bead of silicone around it and stick it back on.

Usually that will fic the problem most of the time

Well I think it's coming in from the sunroof but not too sure, the water looks like it's coming from the centre of the sunroof seal nearest the handle&Interior light but the handle was soaked.

Poaring it down with rain at the moment so I have a huge plastic sheet trapped in my doors thats covering the front window and back to the middle of the car so hopefully that will get me through 'till tomorrow when i'm taking it to the garage after work.
