This is what i have been doing thinking its on when the light is on haha!

Just read the manual and I have indeed been driving with the esp off!

Still think it's a good thing to have...I'll be leaving it turned on. Still no excuse to bad driving though, no amount of 4wd, esp, ayc etc, etc will keep you on the road if your driving to quick for a corner or the roads are icy/greasy.

I've got to say that I think that the Clio's ESP system is one of the laziest and most useless on the market. Even with it on, you can still get out of shape pretty easy, and the traction control is useless at stopping wheelspin. I mean it tries its hardest, but it's a bit rubbish compared to other marques' systems out there.
The only advantage is that you can disable it fully. Audi TTs don't have that luxury - the ESP system never fully disables, even when switched off! TBH though, with the quality of driving of most TT owners, that's probably a good thing! ;)

I found e.s.p very impressive in the snow and heavy ice, controlled the revs and gave me confidence, when turning it off all i got was sh*t loads of revs, wheels spinning and that was it! Great fun though!

Isn't that why 172s/182s and the Trophy are fun to drive whilst most Audis are pretty inert?
