EVO Magazine's Fuel Test

  Clio 197
Has anyone read the article?

It made interesting reading for me... Based on the cars they tested, BP ultimate seemed to be the best fuel they could use.

If anyone's interested, I can type-up the highlights of the test.

yeah, re-type the results, I've read it, but I'm gonna be bored at work, so it'll give me something to read...lol

That was a bloody comprehensive article!!

Makes you wonder whether BP Ultimate would be the best fuel in a NA engine as it was in the Golf 1.8T?

^^^ Err, was it not the current Golf GTI 2.0T (not the 1.8T) they used? (along with the n/a M5).

It would've been good if they'd used something like the CTR, Clio or similar smaller N/A engine for a test. As it is, I don't think it was that clear which fuel is best for N/A engines like those in 172s/182s - BP Ultimate did seem to record better results than Optimax but I think that was for the turbo'd Golf only.

Oh was it? *doh* shows how comprehensive the article was, I must have switched off lol!

But yeah I agree a test in a littler na engine would've been good.

i hear that to get the best out of BP Ultima and Shell Optimax type fules, you have to use them regularly in order to get the best performance gains.

i put £10 of shell optimax in my car once and honestly it ran like a bag of sh1t, it was down on power, gave it a couple of days, went back to normal cheepy fuel and it was back to normal.

Nash: Really depends on what the engine is designed for. The RenaultSports will work a lot better(arguably) on Ulitmate / Optimax.

Each fuel test was done after re-setting the ECU. Just putting Optimax / Ultimate in for one tank doesnt give any real benifits.

On the cup it idles a lot better and is smoother and does about 3mpg more on average.

Even with shell exra diesel and Ultimate diesel i notice more performance and about 4mgp difference per tank.

I read it too and what I got from it was that the expensive fuel is probably worth buying if used regularly and if it is nice and fresh from the refinery. With the current shortage of optimax it's been interesting to see who still has it! I won't buy from them from now on as it is most probably quite old optimax they're selling.
