exhaust advise

Hi I need a new exhaust (cat back) for my 172 cup and as i will hopefully be keeping the car for a long time have decided to opt for a stainless one.
unfortunately im a complete novice in this area but have done some searches and can see that i can get either an off the shelf unit or a custom made one.
As with many people I dont want a loud sound and want it to be hidden as per standard one.
Quoted £300 at ascar in Sheffield for custom made unit which they said would be slightly sportier sounding than standard one but not too loud !!.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
