Exhaust rasping noise

on my 172 ive got a rasping noise on deaccelaration. it is happening around 3500rpm, it does sound almost like a heatshield rattle.

any ideas?

usual 4k rattle anyone??

if it is then its a common problem on these motors. I beleive you need a new exhaust !

ill let somebody whos actually got a 172 and had the 4k rattle reply tho.....

I had this, you can hold the revs at one point around 4000 (4200 in my car) and the centre section resonates. Turned out to be a loose baffle. I'm baffled! Dont understand the exhaust side of things yet.

Going to get fixed wednesday at renault.

I lost my baffles... new centre section required.

Will do as soon as I can afford it.

Cool. If your car is under warranty, then get them to fix it.

If not, don't bother, just waite until you can afford to put in a new one.

well im unemployed, so i may jus cut out my centre box and weld in a new bit of pipe. Its a 2001 so no warranty
