Experience with JL gear?

I've very much always been an Alpine fanboy however the time has come to sort out some components and an amp for the new 182.

I was considering something like these:

Powered by something like this:

4 speaker route:

And would amp the existing 5.25" Alpine speakers I have if they fit in the back somewhere.

I may not bother with a sub if my needs are met by 2 or 4 decent JL speakers.

Would very much like your thoughts & opinions on the matter. Not looking to spend too much more, less if possible!

Going to modify the doors so that I can fit 17cm components in upfront :)

Cheers

Tbh mate, some TypeR components would work quite well amp'd up especially 6.5" without a sub as they're quite bassy. A mate had a set in each door of his a3 amp'd without a sub and it sounded superb.

The JL's could be better but I've only ever heard them on HPF with a JL sub... That sounded great tbh. Not sure what model of JL comps they were though.

I'm going for a 4 channel amp with 5.25" comps upfront with coaxials in the back running off the STD hu. I personally think it'll sound fine for my needs. I'm not a bass addict anymore!

If you go on Talkaudio you'll end up spending 3 times as much as you planned!

You're right there. My budget has already increased

Will let you know what I end up going for. Going to be a couple of weeks before I have any free time to actually do anything though! Or the cash to buy it!

The thing is this... There's no point in spending big money on speakers unless they're properly mounted and the car is sound deadened with a really good hu with high voltage pre outs.
