ok guys ill start from the begining, my cars not running right, hasnt been for a while, found it hard to put my finger on what exactly is wrong, few people have drove it and said its all in my head but after driving a mates 172 and him driving mine we both agree something is wrong.

there seemed to be too much engine movement and when coming on and off the accelerator, floor it hard and you get a bang (manifold hitting subframe?) i never floor it like that but i still dont think it should happen?

at the time the car had powerflex bushes in the dogbone mount so i assumed the top mounts had worn out so replaced all 4 engine mounts with genuine renault ones, took it out a blast and it was worse (due to more movement, as expected with softer lower bushes but once again it shouldnt be like this!)

the N/S driveshaft has play in it and the inner gaitor on it is all torn, but im not sure if this can cause this problem (play in the shaft would be noticeable when coming on and off throttle though im assuming?) there is rarely any knocks from the shaft though just the odd one when pulling away or sometimes turning so it cant be that bad?

next point, the car runs like a complete dog when cold, now i know they do generally run bad when cold but this is worse than it ever was, feels slightly like when the upstream lambda went but when that went it would hessitate to accelerate when cold and when you floored it, it done nothing but chug, its not doing that, and no warning lights on

after the engine mount went ive tried a few cheap fixes before i spend anymore money! but nothings helped, i gave the throttle body a clean, cleaned the ITG air filter, and checked every engine mount to ensure its all fitted properly and tight and their all fine!

any help would be great as the way i feel i fancy trading it in right now!

EDIT:
forgot to say, it pulls as hard as usual when on the power, sounds the same, cant remember 100% but it started at the same time or around the same time as i fitted the k-tec recessed exhaust, but cant see that causing any problems?!

you could very probably sort the idle and cold running problems with an RS tuner remap.

It is possible IIRC to position the top mount O/S incorrectly when refitting, causing a knock. IIRC there is a guide

i knew the cold running could possibly be the car needing maped due to exhaust and filter mods so wasnt that bothered by it, and it only happens for 5 minutes anyway so not the end of the world.

the knocking could be the mount position, although ive pulled the engine as far forward as i can (this is the fix i beleive) but this wouldnt/shouldnt affect the movement.

its either mechanical movement causing it or a sensor causing the engine to jump/move but that seems a bit unlikely

Dont they all do the cold run thing. Feels like the car is holding back to me. After five mins is fine though!?

I used to have a nasty knocking noise on hard right foot and wheel spin but the powerflex dogbone mount sorted all that out.

Sounds like dodgy fitting to me?!

Sounds like the dogbone is loose underneath, The bolt going through it needs to be super super tight....

Check the mount under the battery as the bolts may have worked loose. This caused a lot of knocking on mine!

all bolts are fine, everything is fitted properly, dogbone mount is perfect.

fred, powerflex mount isnt fitted anymore and all mounting points been replaced so cant the problem being related to that.

ahve you checked that the nut for the mount under the battery tray is tight. no the top one you can see but the one underneath thats a pain to get to i had knocking when cornering and this seems to have been the problem with that.
