Extended Renault Warranty

  BMW 320d M-Sport
Evening!

Just wanted a bit of advice as my warranty on the 197 is going to run out in the next few months and wanted CS' thoughts on whether it's worth extending it?

Would go for extending the Renault warranty I think as opposed to one of these independant ones.

Worth it or not?

I'm remember thinking about this when the 172 turned 3, when I saw how much they wanted I soon decided I didn't need a warrenty. Fortunately nothing really went wrong.

Personally wouldn't go for the renault one. Independant ones cover more stuff. i've seen some that cover brakes and tyres lol

Think it's been covered before, do a weee search

That sounds cheaper than it was in 2006

Look at independant/non-Renault ones too

Sorry, looked at wrong column, its £679.
I looked at non-renault ones for the 197 at the weekend, similar price but covered more so def worth a look

I'm thinking it isn't really worth it and to take a chance, but I'm likely to keep the car for the next 3 years, so think it may be worth it. In that indecision you can see my dilemma! I treat my cars pretty well but then you can't account for the unknowns. Plus with it being French, I'm liable to go round a corner and find half the screws fall out or something similarly dramatic lol.

The reason I'm thinking about it is, other than I'm keeping it for a few more years yet, is my bro had a Laguna estate that ended up needing a new gearbox and other stuff and that was nigh on £2k to sort out.

Horses for courses I guess!

Are there any reputable, independant ones you guys could recommend to look at?

£679 pays for a lot of repairs. My 197 is just over 3 years old and I decided against extending the warranty as I have a great mechanic who is very reasonable.

I suppose that fact that the car had a small oil leak fixed, a new steering wheel and, get this, new brembo brakes just before the warranty ran out helped my decision!!!!!!

Not trying to hijack this thread but wanted to ask D2501 how the search is going?

It's going OK Marv, thanks for asking. Going to see one in Wakefield on Saturday, and saw one last weekend I want to go back and see again as the dealer told me some stuff I noticed (oil on rocker by plugs - couldn't tell if they'd spilled it while filling or a leak, and scuffed alloys) was being sorted this week. He offered me a good price on my current Pug 307 so if it's all sorted I will probably go for that one!

The oil on rocker by the plugs was the leak mine had. The cause was a gel washer that had perished. This leak was only around one plug. What's the specs of the car you are seeing again?

I work at renault i would defo recommend the extended renault warranty. it covers pretty much everything the normal 3 year warranty covers. all of the aftermarket warranty companys we deal with are useless. They never cover anything or have an excuse not to cough up.

This one was around the 2 on the left by the oil cap, so hard to tell. I'll see if it's sorted at the weekend anyway mate :) it was absolutely mint condition inside and had only done 14k, so I hope everything is alright with it as it's the spec and colour I'm after!

the only good aftermarket warranty company i have come across is a company that is linked to arnold clark finance. When we deal with them they authorise pretty much any repair and never quibble the cost. They also pay for 'subsequent' parts (i.e. belts, wiring, pipes) that may be needed for a job, and not just the 'part at fault'
