Extreme jerkyness when cold?

  BMW M5 & E36
When I start my car from completely cold, for the first time in the day or whatever, it is very very jerky. I can't think of a better way to describe it to be honest. Constant throttle just to tootle up to the end of the road, and it's like riding a rocking horse. Slight acceleration and its not so bad, but its nothing Ive ever experienced in any other car, or infact in my old clio either? When ive been running more than about 3/4 minutes the problem starts to smooth out.

Its been the same since I got the car mid-february time, slightly worse now if anything.

Clutch pedal is also slightly lumpy, not the smoothest I have ever used.

Any clues?

Chris

Could be a number of things, cold start device not working, faulty coil pack, TDC sensor. Etc...

I would have a word with Fred or Edde.

Check the coil parks also check your spark plugs TDC sensor and coolent temp sensor maybe a wiring issue with it.

Any pointers as to how i'd go about doing that? Sorry for the possibly daft question...

Best see a agarage unless you live mear someone on here who can help you for free if you don't know what your looking for or even if we tell you were it is you won't know what good or bad.

Right, who've we got within a couple of hours of Lincoln!?

The car's had the coil pack replaced before by the previous owner, is that something that goes often? All the sensors sound a bit major.

Coil packs fail loads
TDC sensor is only check £20
Coolent temps even less.

If you knew what to look for I can find the details out but you'd need a multimeter anyway.
