Fan Belt

What is it when people refer to a fan belt. When i pull away from junctions i hear a squeeking noise, its what folks refer to as the fan belt slipping, but i cant find any mention of a fan belt oint eh haynes manual.

Can someone stear me in the right direction please.

Yes, the squelching screeching noise is normally the belt slipping. I have been getting it recently when after there has been a lot of rain during the night and I start the car in the morning, only lasts for about 2 minutes though and is not very noisy, just noticable really., its just a case ususally of sliding the alternator a bit to tighten the belt again.

Yeah its the alternator belt in the haynes, just tighten the tensioner

It is known as the Aux Belt. However most people know it just as the fan belt.

After having a look at mine i dont think its overly loose, but there are a few cracks on it along the inside, betweent he teeth, so i think it needs replacing, buts its an absoloute b*****d to get to.

Anyone know how much its gonna cost for a garage to do it, dunno if i can be arsed wiht it at the moment
