FAO Fred, Aircon removal question

  Audi TT 225
I was talking to fred a while back about what makes the cup quicker, we were talking about the aircon. I was thinking of swapping engines but something else occured to me...

Is it possible to put the auxilery mounting stuff from a cup onto a ph1 172 and ditch the aircon kit?
Am I correct in thinking the aircon is run from the aux belt so if the cup setup would fit on and wasn't wasting engine power + less weight from all the aircon crap it would be a wee bit quicker?

I need my cam belt and aux changed like yesterday but cant find anywhere local that will touch it. How much work would be involved in this if the cup setup fits? Is it hard to remove all the aircon pipes and gubbins?
What parts from the cup would I need to find?

oooh i wanna know that too cos i was gonna take mine out last week, but i spent too long washing her and didnt get time

Not hard to remove AC, especially if your having the cambelt done at the same time.
You need a cup alternator, mounting brackets, belt and thats about it.
Rest comes off and gets binned.
The only problematic thing is the power steering pipe, may have to get a cup one.

Ile pop up the part numbers for you in a bit.

Aparantly its illegal to de-gas it yourself. If anyone has a air con rad/compressor in really good condition let me know as mine is bent like a banana after a stone hit it.

Surely being cool in the summer is better than 0.0000001 seconds quicker to 60? I'd give a full second to be cooler in the summer, heh :p

I'll gladly open the windows and stay cool. I can't see the point in all the gadgets: electric windows, rain sensitive wipers, oil level sensor...so starts a grumpy old man rant...

All in all though, the extra performance is so very marginal it really cannot be worth forking out money for. Better to spend that money on some track driving lessons to learn how to drive the RS Clio properly.

Appart from the belts would all that be ok from a breakers? Dont see the point in paying renault prices for the brackets and alternator.
Is it matt-black that works in a renault breakers? Anyone got a phone number or email for him?

Whats the oil pipe for? Dont say oil lol, why do i need a new one and OMG £170 for a pipe!!!

172 uses a different PAS line to 172 cup

we can convert your PAS pipe no problem at a fraction of the cost

Sorry for being dense but if my PAS pump is just being fitted onto the cup mounts then wont it fit anyway? or is length the issue because its in a different position?
