Can't they just be mandrel bent or ... what's the proper term !?

My thoughts exactly...

Surely mandrel bending would save a HUGE amount of time on that application...?!?!!?!?

From a gas flow point of view, I'd be more concerned about what the inside of the welds looks like. :eek:
 
There is a certain amount of movement of various things in an engine bay not least the engine itself. If all pipework was rigid end to end it would all end in tears.
