FAO Proper Genius People - Shaking/Vibrating in First.

  LY R26, LY 182
Just interested Rob, did you change the driveshafts and did that resolve the rumble?

Noticed similar symptoms in the 182. It only does (or it is much more noticeable) in first gear, as you say like a rumble/shaking when you floor it. Drive normally seems fine, put some beans down and it rumbles as the revs increase. Don't really notice it in any other gears... also more noticeable when turning and accelerating.

CV boots seems fine.

How much for a garage to change them, and is it something a novice can attempt (I've done changed all the brakes/fluid and changed rear shocks before...)

Cheers

The cause of this was the uppper gearbox mount, it had lost its lower bolt.

The mount is under the airbox/battery. Check that first.

I did change my driveshaft in the end, but that was for a knackard cv joint (clicking when turning).

Any more troubles, feel free to pm me and I'll try to help.

Cheers Rob, I'll get under it this weekend and have a proper look. It sounds like a rumble/vibration almost like the engine spluttering, although the power delivery is nice and consistent from the engine, just starts to make a noise - does that sound like what yours did? Only really in 1st as well... hope it ent the driveshaft as they look expensive !

You could almost feel it on mine, acceleration was bang on, but on full throttle there was just a buzz. It's not something you can see from underneath the car mate, if you search for top gearbox mount related stuff you'll find plenty on how to take a look etc.

Second hand driveshafts are fine btw, and only around £50 :)
