FAO RENO TECHS

  Lionel Richie

Right this problem with the 1.2 16Vs having "mayonase" under the oil cap!!! Anyone know anything about it??? What the feck causes it????

Mines got worse (50000miles) quite a lot of gunk under the cap!!!

Dip stick is fine, coolant is fine as far as i can tell

I doubt its the head gasket

Renault Soihull say its normal and so do Renault UK!!!!

yeah exactly, but its been like this since day one (July13th 2001)

Renault blame it on condensation

I know many other 1.2 16Vs have this problem also

Ive rang up Reno UK several times, no help!!!!

If it was head gasket, then surely the car would drive sh*t etc??? (mines fine, uses no oil, and goes stronger than it ever has!!!!!! It pulled 86bhp on the rollers too)

its the oil an water emulsifyin(sp) if your coolant level is not movin an is the correct colour it may just be moisture under the cap! You can buy strips you dip in your coolant and it changes colour if there is oil present but if your gasket had gone i think it would be worse!

im not a reno techie tho!

icon is correct and i was going to suggest it.

Short journeys and unsufficient warm up can lead to lots of condensation forming over night, only for another short journey the next morn when it will take a LONG time for the oil to get sufficiently hot and evaporate the water.

There are long term dangers concerned with acids that develop, but im sure you wont have that car for 20 years.

Clean the cap, and thrash the engine till its HOT.

na im always late!!!!!!!! Solihull to Coventry = 17miles and in the morning takes a normal person 45min - 60min, i do it in just over 30min

edit - im not a "morning person"

me neither, i go a 14 mile commute through Bristol and its on the M4/M32 junction!

Now THATS traffic, not to mention the uni is on the roundabout with 2 exits....so you only got 2 ways into it....and its alwasy blocked! lol
