FAO XBOX360 owners questions...

  Megane DCi 147bhp/350nwm
To just clear some things up because no-where seems to state clearly.

To link my laptop to my xbox360...do i just use a USB to USB lead?

If i used a cat5 from my laptop to my XBOX360 can i get on XBOX live?
*my laptop would be connected wirelessly to a router/modem*

I've now got mind blank but i probably have more questions...:rasp:

Connecting directly to the router is best but you can use internet connection sharing via your laptop if needed.

Cool, i'll share via laptop for time been as CBA to run a cat5 to router and not shedding £60 on a wifi adaptor.

even dick turpin wore a mask!

no you will need a cross over cat 5 cable. it is essential that it is crossover and not the wire that is included in the 360 premium box. if you use that then the internet connection sharing wil not work.

will not. :)

Oh and you can't connect your laptop to your xbox using a USB cable, (edit), well you probably can, but I don't think it will do anything.

If this is purely to get on xbox live then yes 2 solutions.

1. Use the cable that came with the console and connect to your network switch/router/modem etc on a LAN port.

or 2 (if you don't have a router/switch etc)

Use a cross-over cable (available from all good highstreet PC shops - ahem PC World) to connect it to your PC. :)

But i've seen you can connect your PC/laptop to your xbox to stream videos and pictures etc...?? how would one go about doing this?

Well if you have a USB hard drive you can connect this to your XBox 360. Or alternatiely using your local network (switch/router etc) then you use the cat5 cable as per 1) in my example above to do it.

Theres a guide on the www.xbox.com/support site - or alternatively logon to the forum on there as it can be pretty challenging :)
