Fecked rear dampers?????

Car  172cup
Had my car up on axle stands yesterday to fit my exhaust... and noticed that my rear dampers were pissing out oil.

Its a bloody 52 plate for heavens sake! This shouldn't be like this so early in the cars life surely?

What do i do now? Upgrade... or replace? (my warranty has passed btw lol)

i think its about time Renault started to do these under warranty, most seem to fail within a few years

Bought my Clio from a dealership. 1 year old (54 plate), then 2 days later I noticed one rear shock was fecked. They replaced it under warrenty, both sides in fact because I moaned like a woman (very butch woman, lol).

Apparently they are quite common to failing. Bloody french cars...:S

my cars had 9 shocks in 25k miles, they' warrantyed all 5 replacements. All rears... first one went at 3k and i think ones gone again.

^ that's diabolical - 9 in 25k miles = design fault IMHO !

Both mine went on my 54 plate car, one after 15k, the other after 20k. Replaced grudgingly under warranty.

This is the only problem I've had though (from new).

I got a 52 plate 172 cup, 54k miles and just changed all mine to koni top adj for £350 due to rear shock dumping all its oil. the scary thing is when i took off the knackered shock it wouldn't go down more than an inch so i had a totally hard shock on one side! (made things interesting in corners!)

i think this is what mine's doing mate... its kicking me back out round corners at 40mph at the mo. scary sh1t

it makes for interesting handling anyway.

yup definitely a design fault if they cant manufacture it reliably then its an inherent design problem. Surely the manufacturing process itself doesnt vary much for shockers...

what should i do then.... obviously ive got to get new dampers, but shall i get some 2nd hand reno ones... new reno ones... or get some half decent ones (if so which)?

PS... i'm a skint scotsman. Bear that some consideration when replying lol

you might want to consider Bilstein then mate, Euro Car Parts sell them and im pretty certain they will be better quality than the OE ones, and depending on the range you go for they dont have to cost the earth either

I thought the standard 172 / cup suspension was a form of Bilstein?

yes they are, and 182 cup dampers are different again.

172 ff and 182 un-cup'd are the same I believe.

I wouldn't bother with reno ones if they arent going to warranty it. check out www.motorsportworld.co.uk for some rear dampers.
