Few 172 issues..

  Iceberg 2002 172
First of all a friends 172 doesnt want to rev over 5k.. what could cause this?

And second of all, out with the gf yesterday in the 172, pull up for petrol, put £30 in the tank, restart the car and suddenly the SERV light and airbag symbol are lit up on the dash, what does this mean please as the handbook just says see a renault dealer.

Thanks
Matt

As for the 5K, I think it maybe Limp Mode, do you have any symbols on the dash displaying?

The Serv + Airbag = The cables under the seats are playing up (common as muck) just give them a wiggle, should solve this

Thank you very much :D i will try this in a minute concerning the SERV light.

As the the 5k problem he didnt mention any lights on the dash when i asked about it, What is limp mode?

Thanks you

Limp Mode is on most cars now-a-days I assume the Clio has it too, I'm not 100% though, it usually stops you kicking the nuts out of it when there is an underlying issue with the car.. Only way to be certain of what's making the car hold back is getting it hooked up onto a diagnostics machine.. Local garage would be cheaper then Renault, but I'd recommend trying to find a specialist in your area..

As for the seats, its extremely common, just search Serv + Airbag and you will see what I mean :rasp:

Ah i see now thank you :D

He said on the diagnostics it was reading the engine speed as 186% if that means anything to anyone?

Cheers

The 1*2's do have limp mode. Mine went into it soon after I brought it. Turns out it was a knackered lambda sensor which was replaced under warranty by the stealer the same day. There are a lot of other reasons it can happen though.

As for the Airbag & SERV lights - it'll definitely be the cables under one of the seats. It hasn't happened to mine (yet) but it's a very common issue and giving them a wiggle will usually solve it. If not, try disconnecting your battery for half an hour or so instead.

Thank you mate :) He said on the diagnostics the only thing flagged up on the car is that the ecu thinks the engine is running @ 136% so the car would probably die out at 5k thinking it was at the limiter perhaps?

Possibly the lambda sensor then. It could be over-fuelling as a result maybe?
I'm sure someone who knows more about this sort of thing than I do will be along to comment soon enough. :)
