few questions about my new purchase (ph1 172)

i bought a phase 1 172
i have had it a week and experianced this:

some bastid has keyed it already - i work in Bath...
some kids through stones over a hedge, one proceeded to
crack my windscreen (its tiny about 3mm ) can i repair?
i can hear a droney noise - i think its the brakes, is this a common problem?
costing on discs and pads and best place to buy?

When i accelerate in first, hard, theres a harsh rubbing sound
from the front- is this wheel spin - or is something up?
it feels like i cant give it full power in 1st, cause this horrible
grating sound kicks in, i dont want to damage the car

also has the Ph 1 got traction control, i dont think it has
but want to make sure, also any tips on maintaining the
phase 1s , things to look out for.

Sorry for the million and one questions, but im sure all have you
were once in my position when buying yours!

Thanks for any advice in advance!

The noise may be your wheel bearings rather than brakes.

Brakes are cheap though, Try www.gsfcarparts.com about £60 HC Brembo disc's front and £30 pads.

Thats is probably your front tyres trying to grip in 1st, what tyres have you got?

Hi :)

You should be able to get the windscreen repaired on insurance. They just fill it in to stop it cracking anymore. The droning noise could be a wheel bearing? The rubbing sound from the front when you boot it could be an engine or gearbox mount. Think they all do it though so wouldnt worry about it. They all make lots of weird noises :) Ph1 doesnt have traction control no. Check that your cambelt has been done, what the milage? Oh and new discs and pads will be about £100 if your gonna stick with standard I think. Might be worth upgrading? Cheers.

thanks dan, also question on styling, can you put the phase 2 rear bumper on the phase1? much work needed e.t.c and rubbing strips aswell? thanks!

The side strips are easy simple, just unclip them with the door open.

I believe it shouldn't much work, just bolt straight, but I would check with a few other people first.

phase 2 rear lights are normally an other one to do.

  Whichever has fuel
Bumper is straight swap, but you also have to change the rear arch liners so it all lines up correctly.
Ph2 strips fit straight on, about £80 from Renault. (plus colour coding)
Rear lights are about £30 from a breakers, go straight on.

I'd get the windscreen fixed asap though, because if it rains heavy then i will bugger up the heatflective screen membrane.

I got my screen fixed a few weeks back for free from a repair company in Halfords car park.
