im trying to send my friend a file which is roughly 4.5 gb does anyone know of a way to do it over the net?

Burn it onto a DVD disk as data and mail it, all i can suggest, probably be quicker than uploading it :S

You could break it down using WinRAR and send bit by bit.

no chance man, uplaoding 4.5 gig will take long, better to send it like bluepete said.
