Fire extinguisher installation question

  172 Cup plus more
Hi guys

I have a a few questions regarding installing a omp fire extinguisher system with x6 nozzles.

My first being omp state in the manual to use a T piece at the bottle then run one line for the engine bay and one to the driver and passenger, could I not just run one line from the bottle down the side of the car the place a T piece in the footwell to supply the cockpit and carry the other line through to the engine bay? Or does this effect how the extinguish-ant is displaced?

My next is placement of the pull handle outside of the car, which side should it be?

Please not this is only a trackday car at the moment but I want to be on the safety side as possible and with the possibility to do competitive driving at a later date so want to stay within msa guidelines .

Cheers

You want even pressure thus t-piece at the bottle IIRC.

I was reading up on it before and non t-piece means that by the time it's got the the engine bay it's dribbling out as it's passed all the holes on the way.

Ok thanks for the reply only thing being the omp manual does not give you a great diagram either. So I will have to run 2 lines through the car (one being cockpit and the other for the engine bay)? It's a shame as my idea would have been neater and less weight lol but want to do it properly.

If you do it your way then by the time the stuff has come to the engine bay there will be very little pressure left.

Ok thanks Adam, that's what I was thinking but was insure hence asking, cheers for your help all

I think your way is fine as long as:

You rotate the first t piece 90 degrees. I can't see how that would affect the pressure compared to your first pic.
And you do the engine bay the same as in the first pic.

Ok that's makes sence as it is just doing the same as the omp way just with a long pipe from the bottle to the first T piece.

As for the engine bay it would be far tidier if I could put that T piece in there so I can run one line behind the engine to the manifold and the right side of the car and another line with just one 90 degree to the left side also removing the fact a line would be at the front of the car susceptible front end damage, but will that cause a drop in pressure as said by others?

Ok thanks Mark, I will have to look at the best way I can route it but keep all three in one line

Thats a lot of nozzles, what liter bottle is it?....

I went with 2 nozzles, one on fuel rail one on driver foot well (MSA minimum reg). But suppose it wont hurt to have more.

How did you get on Gaz, what set up did you go for in the end?

That's what I thought, a lot of nozzles. I'd rather have two that worked well tbh. I have one in the footwell and one in the engine bay.

It's a fia spec omp 4.25L 6 nozzle
System, slightly over the top but I prefer to be on the safe side as the missis drives the car also.

Fitted the system over the weekend but not to keen on how
I have done it in the engine bay so will start again next week.
