First car? Can't decide!

Should go for a Clio dynamique 1.2 or something, thats what I've got! Good fun car to drive and I love the interior. Can pick them up very cheap aswell nowadays. May aswell save money and buy something faster in the future :) have fun!

Some of these comments are a bit harsh.

I personally would never spend that kind of money on a first car, but most of us have the benefit of hindsight having been there ourselves and remembering how much we wasted on cars at a young age. You're obviously not a r****d unlike some people your age that come on here, my advice is to get something as cheap as possible for a couple of years until you can afford something you really want and the insurance is cheaper and you are (possibly) earning better money etc.

Don't know why everyone's having a go at the guy for spending 'too much' on a first car.
He has clearly said that his dad won't buy anything second hand and fair play to him, if my dad was offering me a brand new car I wouldn't say no and get an old one!

Thankyou!

Surely as your first car, you sho
uld be looking at running costs over most other factors?
Have a look at a new Fiat Panda. Absolutely brilliant car, European Car of the Year (may have been the previous model but it's the same formula), no major reported faults with the outgoing model, road tax is free on some models and they are pretty much the cheapest car going that you can run day to day (insurance group 2).
They are also great fun to drive and have a cool/quirky image.

My dad won't buy a fiat, it's a shame really

I like both the Clio and Polo.
Id go for a VW if they have sorted out the dodgy door electrics from previous models.
But Clio dci will be good on fuel and have torque for easy driving.

Option 3? Fiesta 1.4 TDCI ?

I think we have settled on the Polo now.

If it was me I'd get a Fiat 500 Twinair.

Again he won't buy a fiat unfortunately :(

Didn't realise the new ones were 1.2. Polo Bluemotion = chuffing awesome, I really like them.

There's a 1.2 Bluemotion? Are you sure :O

Get real everyone...his dad's offering to buy him a brand new car. He's in the market for a NEW car, suggesting MK2 DCi's is pointless.

Someone who reads! ;) thanks

FLOL

I'd never buy a brand new car. Way too expensive for not much difference. But since your dad's paying, just go for the Polo.

Ironic surname, Mr G.Clio, given that you've just about bought a Polo.

Hope you enjoy it... (3cyl 1.2 petrol?! :dapprove: )

Don't become a statistic !

Will you stick around on here or are you off to join polosport.net ?

I do apologise, Cliosport is not usually this retarded.

Are you sure ? There are some world leading short-bus candidates on here...

I'd buy the Clio. For the same money it'll have more toys than the Polo. As for build quality, meh, VWs rattle too.

Pff its just a username ;) And I will have to look into Bluemotion but...

In the end it turns out you get more for your money on the Polo and a nicer interior in my opinion.

This. It will hold it's value much better too. The Bluemotion is one of my favourite Volkswagens, I'd 100% get one if I had the money.

polos look better too... imo

I'd have to agree with you there, even the base model looks good.

Yeah that was another reason we've kind of decided on the Polo, given that one day i'll sell it on to upgrade. The problem with Bluemotion is that it's turbo diesel and it's hard to keep insurance down - i'll have to do a quote in a sec.

So you're telling me that for the same money as the Clio, you can buy a Polo of the same age and mileage that's better equipped? I find that hard to believe, but ok.

For what my dad wants, yes. For instance, you can't get electric rear windows in the Clio yet they are standard on the Polo. I couldn't give 2 s***s if the back windows are electric but he does so I ain't complaining!

It's only a 1.2 though and low-powered. A diesel without a turbo wouldn't move!

Yeah thats true, and I did an insurance quote and it came to £2950 whereas a petrol Polo is £1400 anyway.

If your dad is spending 8-large on a car for you, get him to spend another £140 on IAM tuition. Lack of crashing will save you a lot long term.
