First Car

C

clio172cup20

Hi all,
Just got my first car and I'm proud to say its a Clio 172 Cup in a blue colour. Amazing car to drive... Always wants to go tho... it hard to drive it slow :( .... Gear box seems really aggressive compared to other cars i've driven, is that normal?!!?... and some times it doesn't start first time after a long run, only done it twice, has that happened to anyone?!

Thanks for reading

Ps: Love the site !!!

Nice one mate! I had to climb the clio ladder starting with my 1.2 dynamique before i could get my 172 cup. Sometimes my car won't fire first time but not that often. I just blip the throttle before turning the engine off and that seems to help it

Cup as your first car, lucky sod, it was my third!

Lovely car to own and good luck with it :)

The gear box is a bit of let down tbh, if you're having to be harsh with it chances are it's knackered, I had to have a whole new box in mine (originally I assumed it was just a selector).

Insurance works out.. £1552 as a named driver....Not to bad considering i'm 20 years old and i work in insurance .. so that helps (hehe)

Can you touch up the paint??. (as it's got a few stone chips).. Can i purchase some touch paint online??
and the wheels have been curbed in a few places... Would you recommend me getting them refurbed or buying new ones??!?

Well.... if you work in insurance you will know that if you are the primary driver, and you are only down as a named driver then you are NOT covered by the policy.

Get the wheels refurbed, you can conisder a change in colour that way as well!

yeah lucky bloke, my first car was a orange Morris Marina 1.3 that I bought off my dad for 100 hard earned quid, clutch went in the first few hours!

  Yaris Hybrid
In fairness though he could pay £3000 to have it insured in his name, drive carefully for a year and then have some c*ck vandalise his car or do a hit and run and still not get any no claims bonus!

It'll probably get written off in the winter along with all the Cups!

Blimey!

My first car was a brown 1979 Mini 1000.

me too, actually you had the deluxe version, I only had a 998cc

the Brown Bullet, water came in through the footwell, never went fast enough to crash, and ran for about 30 days without filling up, over heated, no radio, locks and lights didnt work, and brakes you had to press 3 times before they did anything

God i loved that car, I actually do miss it, a hoot to drive.

I don't want to hijack this post but can you elaborate a bit on the named driver not being covered bit please mate.

Basically a named driver is a driver for occassional use, if you are driving the car everyday as a 'named' driver then obviously that's not occassional use; and insurance companies will not pay out if they discover this (they will check with your neighbours, your employers, etc (any reason not to pay out)).

It's even more obvious when say someone is on their Mum's policy as a named driver for their car, even though their Mum has her own car.

If you get what I mean :)

So how does it work if you and your partner only own one car? Are you saying it's better to both get insurance for it?:S

Not 100% sure mate, but if you have any doubt contact your insurer.

Whoever uses the car most needs to have the insurance in their name, with the other as a named driver basically.

Insurance costs so much that you want to make sure you are actually covered, seen too many horror stories to not make sure!

Cheers mate, i'll have to have a word with my insurers once i take delivery of the Meg, see what they suggest. Like you say it's not worth giving them any excuse to try and get out of paying you for whatever reason.

Over a grand for insurance.....you must be off your rocker

well thats only like £125 per month i know that loads but if the lad is 20 then there`s a 99% chance he lives with parents at home and has disposable income to burn, better than spending £350 a month on beer (which is what i used to do at 20yrs old) in fact before i got a mortgage and first bought my last 172MKII brandnew at 24yrs i had a £13k loan, insurance, fuel etc.. + £350 a month on beer clothes etc.. as long as you have an even average wage and live at home you can make decisions on what you want to spend it on.

better than pissing it up the wall

  A4 Avant & A3
nice first car mate... mine was a 950cc (*not even a 1 litre) mk 1 fiesta complete with dented door!!! (hell that was 10 years ago!)
And it was a faded red colour.. i loved that car lol

About time the they changed the law for first time drivers Ii reckon.
While in the 2 year probation period you should be limited to 1 ltr and no more than 45bhp ;)

Also will look strange if the "Named" drivers car is owned by the "named" driver on the log sheet?

£3k insurance is there for a reason, a new qualified driver is hardly in a postion to be able to drive a 172bhp FWD hatch well is he?

Sorry for the rant.....buts thats the way I see it? ;)
